The SIOG Advanced Course in Geriatric Oncology is our unique CME accredited training programme lead by international experts in the field of geriatrics AND oncology designed to provide specific skills in assessment, care pathways and therapeutic choices about the elderly patients with cancer in order to provide the basis of the assessment and the multi-dimensional approach that should be applied to elderly cancer patients.
This 2-phase advanced course is addressed to professionals in the management of elderly cancer patients who will acquire knowledge on the general principles of cancer treatment as a multidisciplinarity with case based programmes, discussions and debates in geriatrics for clinical oncologists as well as in clinical oncology for geriatricians.
Course dates
Phase 1 – 4-day course in Treviso, Italy from June 29-July 2, 2016
Phase 2 – this phase consists in attending the SIOG 3-day Annual Conference, to be held in 2016 in Milan (Italy) from November 17-19, and it will end with a follow-up and wrap-up session with faculty
University Certificate will be provided to students only at the end of phase II on the proviso of attendance to both phases.

Purpose of the course
The course aims are:
- To provide basic information related to cancer medicine to the geriatricians and to the application of geriatric principles to the clinical oncologists
- To train young medical oncologists and geriatricians to work together. These individuals will become the bridge between the oncological and geriatric teams in their own institutions
The course is addressed at:
- Medical oncologists completing their training since less than 5 years and medical oncology fellows
- Other clinical oncologists: surgical oncologists and radiotherapists completing their training since less than 5 years and radiotherapy fellows
- Geriatricians completing their training since less than 5 years and geriatric fellows
